The
Art of Andrew Wyeth
Jeff Mishure, Art Excursions |
|
American
painter Andrew Wyeth celebrated his 90th birthday in
2007. This slide lecture offers an overview of his career
spanning eight decades. Rather than focusing on better
known subjects like the "Helga" pictures or "Christina's
World" (although both will be discussed), this slide
lecture highlights the themes of domestic interiors,
architecture, intimate and panoramic landscapes, friends
and family, and still-life subjects. Art historian and
professor Jeff Mishur will provide a context for Wyeth
within American art history, as well as relate Wyeth's
works to the artist's personal experiences.

To
Inspire and Instruct:
The Chicago Public School
Art Collection
Robert Eskridge, The Art Institute |
With
over 1000 paintings and sculptures, the Chicago
Public School District owns the largest public
school art collection in the nation. The collection
was formed primarily during the first half of
the 20th century, during the Progressive era
and the Great Depression, when the majority of
the schools were built. Learn how the collection
was begun and how it came to be "recovered" by
a remarkable conservation effort. Presented by
Robert Eskridge, Woman’s Board Endowed
Executive Director of Museum Education, The Art
Institute of Chicago.
